Safety Warnings
The DiveToolbox planner continuously monitors your dive plan for potential hazards. When a parameter falls outside safe limits, the planner displays warnings and errors directly in the results panel so you can address them before entering the water.
Two levels of alerts
Alerts are divided into two severity levels -- errors and warnings -- each with a distinct color and meaning.
Errors (red)
Errors indicate critical issues that make the dive plan unsafe as configured. These should be resolved before considering the plan viable.
An insufficient gas error showing the affected tank, the volume shortfall, and the required reserve -- planner-error-gas-light.png / planner-error-gas-dark.png
The following errors can appear:
| Error | Description |
|---|---|
| INSUFFICIENT_GAS | Not enough gas in a tank to complete the dive. The message shows the tank name, how many liters are missing, and the reserve requirement. |
| CNS_EXCEEDED | CNS oxygen toxicity has exceeded 100%, indicating acute toxicity risk. |
| PPO2_EXCEEDED | The maximum partial pressure of oxygen has exceeded safe limits for the dive. |
Errors represent conditions that pose a direct safety threat. Never proceed with a dive plan that has unresolved errors. Adjust your depth, bottom time, gas mix, or tank volume to bring all parameters within safe limits.
Warnings (orange)
Warnings flag parameters that are approaching their limits. While the dive may still be technically feasible, these items deserve careful attention and conservative judgment.
A CNS warning indicating oxygen toxicity is between 80% and 100% -- planner-warning-cns-light.png / planner-warning-cns-dark.png
| Warning | Description |
|---|---|
| CNS_HIGH | CNS oxygen toxicity is between 80% and 100%. The dive is within limits but approaching the threshold. |
| Generic warnings | Additional warnings from the calculation engine related to specific dive conditions. |
Safety metrics color coding
The five safety indicators in the results panel (PPO2, CNS, OTU, END, and gas density) use a consistent color scheme to communicate risk at a glance:
Safety metrics with color coding -- green for safe, orange for caution, red for exceeded -- planner-safety-colors-light.png / planner-safety-colors-dark.png
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | The parameter is within the safe range. No action needed. |
| Orange | The parameter is approaching its limit. Review your plan and consider adjustments. |
| Red | The parameter has exceeded its safe limit. The plan should be modified before diving. |
For the specific thresholds of each metric, see the Reading Results page.
Resolving alerts
When errors or warnings appear, consider the following adjustments:
- Insufficient gas -- increase tank volume, switch to doubles, reduce bottom time, or reduce depth.
- CNS or PPO2 issues -- lower the oxygen percentage in your gas mix, reduce depth, or shorten bottom time.
- High END -- add helium to your gas mix to reduce narcotic depth.
- High gas density -- increase the helium fraction or reduce your planned depth.
The planner recalculates in real time. As you adjust parameters, watch the alerts and safety indicators update immediately so you can find the right balance between your dive objectives and safety margins.
